Thanks for buying GitMon!

Your license key has been emailed by Polar. Open GitMon from the menu bar, select Manage License… from the gear menu, and paste your key. One key activates up to 3 Macs.

Your license has been extended for another 12 months of updates. GitMon updates your entitlement automatically on its next check.

Installation

Download GitMon.dmg, double-click to open, and drag GitMon into your /Applications folder. Launch it once from Applications or Spotlight.

Or install via Homebrew:

$brew install --cask suresk/tap/gitmon

GitMon lives entirely in your macOS menu bar. It requires macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or newer, requires no root permissions or privileged helpers, and installs nothing in the background.

How GitMon Discovers Repositories

By default, GitMon scans your home directory for standard developer roots:

~/personal
~/Projects and ~/projects
~/dev and ~/src
~/code and ~/Development

To add custom directories, open Settings (⌘,) from the gear menu, click Add Folder…, and select any directory on your Mac.

Reading Status Badges

3 dirty Uncommitted changes (modified, untracked, or deleted files) exist in the working tree.

↑ 2 Ahead of upstream remote branch by 2 unpushed commits.

↓ 1 Behind upstream remote branch by 1 commit.

Detached HEAD HEAD points directly to a commit SHA rather than a named branch (e.g. after a rebase or bisect).

2 stale Local branches already merged into default branch or untouched for 30+ days.

Opening Repositories

Click the quick action buttons on any repository row, or click Open in… in the detail view to launch:

Terminal, iTerm, Ghostty, or Warp
Visual Studio Code or Cursor
Xcode
Finder

You can configure your default one-click client in Settings.

Licensing & Activations

GitMon offers a 14-day fully-featured trial with no sign-up required. A single license purchase covers up to 3 personal Macs. To move a license to a new Mac, open the customer portal to self-deactivate old machines.

Uninstalling

Quit GitMon from the gear menu, then delete GitMon.app from /Applications. To remove stored preferences, delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.suresk.gitmon.plist.
